Wildlife Volunteering in Peru

An immersive experience at the heart of wildlife rehabilitation in the Amazon rainforest

Here, every action has a purpose.

You take part in meaningful fieldwork, closely connected to the realities of wildlife rehabilitation.

Founded in 2011, Rainforest Awareness Rescue Education Center (RAREC) works to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate wild animals that have been victims of illegal trafficking.

By joining this mission, you directly contribute to protecting the Amazon rainforest while experiencing one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth.

My Field Perspective

This is exactly the type of center I recommend for its genuine commitment on the ground.

Here, animals are not used to entertain visitors. Every treatment, every action, and every decision is designed to support their rehabilitation and, whenever possible, their return to the wild.

What you’ll really be doing in the field

On the ground, you become an integral part of the center’s daily work:

  • Cleaning enclosures and providing basic animal care

  • Preparing and distributing food

  • Creating enrichment activities to support animal welfare

  • Collecting natural food sources (plants, insects, etc.)

  • Observing and monitoring animal behavior

  • Participating in awareness and educational activities about wildlife conservation

Hands-on work that plays an essential role in the rehabilitation process.

Your mission

What?

In the field, you actively take part in the center’s daily work alongside the team: caring for rescued wild animals and helping maintain the facilities.

What matters most is your motivation to get involved, learn directly in the field, and live a meaningful hands-on experience.

When?

The mission is available year-round, with specific arrival and departure days to ensure smooth organization on site.

How long?

The minimum stay is 2 weeks.

The longer you stay, the greater your impact.
