An immersive volunteer experience where you actively support rescued wildlife and contribute to conservation efforts in the heart of Costa Rica.
Founded in 2004 to rescue, rehabilitate, and release Costa Rican wildlife, Toucan Rescue Ranch (TRR) has become an internationally recognized center for conservation, education, and research.
Here, you will join a dedicated team working to protect and rehabilitate wildlife through hands-on conservation efforts.
During your mission, you may have the opportunity to work with some of Costa Rica’s most iconic species, including toucans, sloths, parrots, macaws, and birds of prey.

Your mission
What?
You will contribute to the daily operations of the center and to the well-being of rescued wildlife. Alongside the team, you will help with the sanctuary’s daily tasks and support animal care staff in providing care for the animals.
Depending on the needs at the time, you may also participate in educational and awareness activities focused on wildlife conservation.
Who?
This mission is open to anyone 18 years or older who is motivated, committed, and ready to take part in a hands-on volunteer experience that is both challenging and deeply rewarding.
No previous experience with animals is required, although it is always appreciated.
When?
Volunteer opportunities are available year-round, depending on the center’s needs and volunteer availability.
How long?
The minimum duration is 2 weeks. Longer stays are strongly encouraged, as they allow for a deeper immersion and a more meaningful contribution to the animals and the team.

International / domestic flights and transfers to the center
Accommodation (depending on the option chosen):
• Local Costa Rican host family : cultural immersion with a private bedroom, meals included, and daily life shared with a local family.
• Volunteer house : shared accommodation with other volunteers located just a few minutes from the sanctuary.
• Release site housing : a unique nature immersion for volunteers assigned to the release site.
Medical and travel insurance (mandatory).
Personal toiletries (shampoo, sunscreen, insect repellent,... ).
Excursions, leisure activities, and other personal expenses.
On-site orientation upon arrival : introduction to the center’s procedures, daily operations, and safety
Free Wi-Fi.
Your contribution directly supports the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of wildlife at Toucan Rescue Ranch, as well as the center’s daily operations.
Several accommodation options are available near the center, including lodging and three meals per day.
All fees are defined transparently, with no hidden costs.
Examples of contributions based on mission duration:
2 weeks → from €475 (≈ $520) (shared room)
4 weeks → from €860 (≈ $940) (shared room)
8 weeks → from €1635 (≈ $1780) (shared room)
Fees may vary depending on the duration and type of accommodation.
