A passion turned
into a life’s mission
My name is Alexia Talamvekos, founder of Vaya Planet.
This project was born from my journey, my field experience, and a deep conviction :
volunteering can and should be ethical, human, and meaningful.
My story
At first, I worked as a beautician.
But I quickly realized that my true calling was elsewhere: with animals and nature.
It wasn’t just a simple desire, but a deep, almost instinctive need to contribute to their well-being.
I then chose to train as a wildlife caretaker, a decisive turning point that led me to incredibly enriching experiences in wildlife sanctuaries and animal parks, both in Europe and internationally.
I worked in Belgium, and later in South Africa, where I held a manager position at a wildlife rehabilitation center.
That’s where I truly found my place.
I later continued my commitment as the manager of a chimpanzee sanctuary in Ivory Coast, a deeply moving human and emotional experience that left a lasting impact on me.
At the same time, I developed skills in digital communication, with a very clear goal in mind:
helping organizations gain visibility and find the support they need to continue their mission.
For more than three years now, I have been actively supporting organizations on the ground by recruiting and supervising committed volunteers.
Every mission, every encounter, every story confirmed one thing to me:
volunteering has the power to transform lives those of the projects, but also those of the volunteers.
It is from this passion, this field experience, and this desire to do things differently that Vaya Planet was born.
